Cats Ahoy by Peter Bently and Jim Field is funny, so funny in fact it has just won the Roald Dahl Funny prize 2011. Not an easy feat with A Place to Call Home, Bedtime for Monsters and Limelight Larry being hot competition. Read more here.
But I wanted Cats Ahoy to win. The text is rhymed and clever and the pictures are heavily detailed which makes them almost seem animated.
One stormy night Alfonso the cat overhears two fisherman talking about the largest ever catch of haddock, not the bounty we would probably be after bur for Alfonso the first Cat Pirate (that I have come across) this is the treasure of treasures. An amusing adventure pursues where chefs are forced to flea the boat in their underpants, cats are pushed to their conniving limits and there are lots and lots of fish.
